Visions Teen Treatment opened in 2002 with the aim of helping families be more involved and supportive of their loved one’s treatment experience. Visions Teen Treatment was founded by Amanda and Chris Shumow. The couple has worked diligently with teens struggling with co-occurring disorders and mental health issues for two decades.

As a Treatment center, Visions Teen Treatment has grown organically over the years adding additional staff when necessary to work with its growing population of clients. Visions Teen Treatment understands that working with adolescents is completely different than working with adults. It is this focus that has helped make the Treatment an ideal treatment center for parents to send their children. The treatment for adolescents varies compared to the work that is done with adults. Adolescents are still developing emotionally and environmentally.

You can expect a holistic approach from Vision Teen Treatment. It conducts diagnostic and psychological evaluations to understand the needs of each client. You will undergo a mixture of holistic treatments during a stay at the Treatment. Treatment plans include experiential therapies and evidence-based treatment modalities. You may experience Dialectical Behavior Therapy, individual therapy, and group therapy.

Visions received accreditation from the Joint Commission and is a member of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).  Therapy, Family Therapy, and Social and Emotional development.

Vision’s team of experts can help teens suffering from a myriad of addiction and mental health disorders. Along with addiction, clients can undergo therapy for co-occurring disorders and mental health issues such as bipolar, eating disorders, self-harm, PTSD, and OCD. There is a strong focus on clients’ emotional growth, family relationship and interactions, and psychological health. According to Visions Teen Treatment, these are three key areas in which healing must take place.

Due to the three key areas being so important to a client’s addiction and mental health healing, Visions Teen Treatment insists a legal guardian or family member must be involved in the treatment and recovery process. Guardians and family members take a leading role in the recovery journey giving the adolescent knowledge that when the treatment process is over, life doesn’t have to revert back to the way it used to be.

You may meet alumni mentors at Visions during your stay. The Treatment’s mentors are former clients who are now a part of the team helping new residents. Along with mentors, you will be helped by therapists, psychiatrists, eating disorder and body image specialists, grief and trauma specialists, and dieticians.

Residents are paired with a team of professionals for treatment. Your team will be made up of a psychiatrist, licensed mental health therapist, and a counselor. There is DBT counseling and a 12-step program which residents are encouraged to attend six days a week.

You will undergo five hours a week of family therapy. On Saturday, Vision’s family therapist operates a multi-family group session on topics such as boundaries and communication. Group trips are also organized by the Treatment. There is a day school allowing adolescents to continue their schooling.

Visions Teen Treatment Accommodation

Visions Teen Treatment’s main campus is made up of two buildings situated on 25 acres of Malibu real estate. It is one of the most beautiful places in the area and ideal for teens seeking recovery. The Treatment’s Mulholland and Latigo locations can house up to ten teens at one time. The exclusivity of the Treatment means adolescents have plenty of time to meet with Vision’s specialists.

The Treatment’s buildings offer a very relaxed atmosphere. There is a swimming pool for clients to relax around when they are not in sessions. Clients stay in shared accommodation. Each room is large in size. Visions regularly shuffles roommates to prevent clients from getting too comfortable with any one person. There is ample outside space allowing residents to explore a bit of nature. There is also a gym to work out in.

Residents stay in shared accommodation. Each bedroom is large and provides clients with ample space to move around. Male and female residents are kept in separate sleeping quarters at the Treatment. Clients are provided with nutritious meals which are prepared by the Treatment’s chefs. Snacks are provided throughout a stay, but sweets and unhealthy foods are banned.

Visions Teen Treatment Modalities

You will undergo treatment plans which include a combination of talk therapy methods, treatments, and medication. Each client is different; therefore, residents have their own specialized treatment plan. Treatment plans are built around your needs, circumstances, and interests. Residents are also able to take classes to continue their studies during a stay. The Treatment’s family component is one of its most important aspects of a resident’s stay. The family component encourages family members to be involved in each resident’s treatment plan.

Visions has multiple locations in southern California. Its main campus is in Malibu. The Treatment’s Malibu setting offers a beautiful natural and calm atmosphere. The residential facilities are top-notch and offer clients a homey feeling courtesy of the large houses the Treatments are located inside. Clients will feel home from home during a stay. The Malibu residence covers 25 acres of property.

Visions Teen Treatment Cost

Residents aged 13 to 18 are welcome at Visions Teen Treatment. The typical stay is 45 to 90 days depending on a resident’s recovery and treatment plan. A 45-day stay at the Treatment facility costs $40,500. The price includes a variety of therapies and treatments, residential accommodation, and day school.
