Solice Recovery

Situated just a short walk from the town of Marbella in Costa Del Sol, Spain, the Solice Recovery rehab center is designed to support its patients through a medical detox and 12 step program in a way that is supportive and empowering of its guests.

Solice Recovery treats addictions and issues such as alcohol, synthetic and prescription drugs, gambling, trauma, eating disorders, and anxiety, and understands that none of these issues are created or exist in a vacuum. They are also incredibly open about the types of people that they cater to, with plans for LGBTQ+ people, young adults, pregnant women, and those with mild physical or intellectual disabilities, to name just a few, as well as sober people who feel as though they may be at risk of relapse.

The center offers a sober environment for 28-day stay programs, with a wide range of therapies available to help support guests as they adjust to sobriety. Everyone at Solice Recovery is a participant in the 12 Step Program at the core of treatment, including the staff, and the center requires full cooperation from guests, a full commitment to following the steps of the program, and participation in the busy daily timetable that is run by knowledgeable, empathetic staff.

Solice Recovery values honesty and trust as its two core components and expects both from those seeking help. While there is a spiritual emphasis on everything that they do, they offer 1-to-1 family, or group therapy sessions, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness, and yoga sessions to help support guests in dealing with the emotional and mental struggles of rehab.

The Solice Spain facility itself is a large former hotel turned villa with a garden and 15 single occupancy rooms with ensuite bathrooms and air conditioning units. There are plenty of amenities available such as a swimming pool, barbeque area, and media center, and guests are allowed 1 hour of wi-fi access per day.

Solice also organizes hiking or cycling trips, as well as visits to local towns and beaches, allowing guests to slowly build up their sober social interactions. To help with this, Solice Recovery supplies in-person or online follow-up support sessions once guests have left the facility, while encouraging anyone nervous about relapse on the flight into the local Malaga airport to take full advantage of their airport collection and delivery service, or even of a flight escort, who will fly out to meet the guest and return on an inbound flight, in case of fear of relapse during the flight itself.

Overall, although Solice Recovery Spain is one of the newer Spanish rehab facilities, it has a lot to offer including full commitment to the 12 Step Program, the inclusion of adapted programs for people with different needs or backgrounds, such as those with disabilities, young people, and LGBT+ individuals. Solice Spain has begun to deliver effective treatment and therapies for a wide range of addictions.

Is 12 Step at Solice Recovery Right for You or your Loved One?

At Worlds Best Rehab we advocate getting the right treatment at the right time. It is important to get the treatment that works for you. If you are new to recovery there is a lot of discussion in the recovery community as to the advantages and disadvantages of a 12 step program.

Many rehabs choose not to use the 12-Step program of recovery for the following reasons:

  • Non 12 step rehab utilizes a wide range of evidence-based treatment therapies that have shown to be successful based on years of scientific research
  • It addresses the root cause of the addiction through one on one therapy in addition to group meetings
  • The issue of “God” and “Higher Power” in the 12 Steps are uncomfortable for many people
  • Non 12 step rehab encourages patients to take responsibility for their recovery, the 12-Steps say you are powerless
  • Non 12 step rehab programs believe that there’s more to addiction than simply the cravings or dependence
  • 12 Step programs believe that “Once an addict, always an addict,” and there are many questions around this and whether it is true or not
  • Some people believe that 12 Step programs are “shame based’

If you are considering a 12 Step rehab program and you are not already ‘in recovery’ or have never been to a 12 Step meeting it is advisable to check out a local meeting of AA or NA first to get a feeling for what its all about. Please also note that other non-12 step self help groups are available such as SMART Recovery.

If you do not feel able to attend a 12 step meeting before rehab then you need to know that the core ‘text’ of 12 step recovery is the Big Book.

You can access the Big Book here for Free through PDF or by listening to it, check out this free online version.

Advantages of 12 Step Program

  • Research has shown that patients who take part in 12-step programs decrease their drug and/or alcohol intake compared to those who don’t attend self-help groups
  • 12 Step programs are nearly 100 years old and remain true to their roots… if they worked 100 years ago they should work now
  • 12 Step recovery gives the chance to learn from others and develop fellowship in recovery
